The University of Texas at San Antonio
WHAT IS THE RUNNERS GO BOLD EXCHANGE?
The Runners Go Bold Exchange is a student-athlete NIL business registry, custom-designed for businesses, donors, alumni, and any other interested NIL dollars wishing to connect with student-athletes. Registered businesses can search, filter and initiate conversations with your student-athletes to discuss an NIL deal. Once the NIL deal between a registered business and your student-athlete is completed, the business will use the Runners Go Bold Exchange to create a transaction that will produce a direct payment to the student-athlete and automate a disclosure to the INFLCR Verified Compliance Ledger. The institution does not have to get involved in the deal, and all transactions within the exchange are consolidated into the compliance ledger for the school's review. 1099-K's are also sent to the student-athletes who meet the IRS threshold for third party payment reporting requirements.
What Is Name, Image and Likeness?
A Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) activity occurs when a student-athlete is being compensated for the use of his or her name, image and/or likeness. In partnership with INFLCR, resources are devoted to NIL programming so that UTSA student-athletes can have the best student-athlete experience possible.
Name, Image and Likeness activities include but are not limited to:
· Endorsing a brand or company on social media
· Hosting a camp or clinic
· Attending a meet and greet at a local organization
· Attending an autograph signing
· Making an appearance at a child’s birthday party
· Taking part in media appearances
Does the state of Texas have an NIL policy?
The state of Texas has introduced S.B. No. 1385, related to Name, Image and Likeness.
Can a University employee or coach help arrange a deal for an athlete?
No. University employees, including coaches and members of the athletics department, CANNOT negotiate deals or contracts. However, they can direct student-athletes to NIL-related opportunities on the Runners Go Bold Exchange.
Does the school or INFLCR take any revenue from NIL transactions in the Runners Go Bold Exchange?
Can I register as an individual?
Yes! When you complete the Business Information, you will be required to fill out all of the sections except the EIN. You can include your LinkedIn or social media page for the website, and a headshot for the company logo.
Do you have to be an official university licensee to register?
No, but businesses will not be permitted to use university marks without obtaining permission from the UT System Office of Brand, Trademarks and Licensing.
Who approves the request to register & how will I know when this occurs?
UTSA Athletics approves each registration request. You will receive an initial email upon receipt of your registration. You will then receive an email confirming your approval and that is when you may begin contacting student-athletes through the Runners Go Bold Exchange.
When can I start contacting athletes and processing payments?
After being approved by the school, you will be able to contact student-athletes and process payments.
